I don't get it, I was brought up a good catholic boy and obeyed the rules of
Don't eat meat on Friday and especially on ' good Friday ' When Our lord' was AL edgily killed but, Why is it ok to eat fish ? Fish is a living creature as well so that is another form of prejudice, is it not ?

I recognise no man-made religion but, if you read what you're "supposed" to eat during Lent you'd starve to deeth. Apparently, the no eating of fish was discontinued in 1984. Too late now, but you'll know for next year.

Mollie, I did't know that ....the no eating of fish was discontinued in 1984.
anyways ,,,I don't know if this is anything to do with the rules of Easter but,
In Sainsbury's beef was on sale @ 50% off, Yes, A whooping big joint normally priced at £18 for £9, Mrs Plum could't walk past that deal. I was wondering if people have stopped buying beef because of the now high price and there is a 'Mountain of Beef' in the warehouses,

Tom:
Sorry, I commented wrongly, so I apologise.
Out of curiosity, I looked up why MEAT shouldn't be eaten on Good Friday as that's when Jesus was crucified, and it said that the rule was discontinued in 1984. It says nothing about having to eat fish any other Friday, that I could find.
Makes no difference really as fish is still flesh whichever way you look at it.

Good Friday is still no meat and toasted hot cross buns for breakfast.
Replied: 31st Mar 2024 at 08:05
I imagine the no meat was because of the blood content on the day when Jesus shed his own blood on the cross

Tom if the supermarkets keep putting their prices up then there will be a mountain of more items because people will stop buying them or cannot afford to buy them. Daddies sauce you cannot find the large 689gm bottles any where which sold for £2 but every shop as the 400gm bottle which was £1-50 now selling at £3

Mollie No apology is necessary I know what you meant and its nice to know the well educated among us make mistakes as well, I think it was a catholic thing to abstain from meat on every Friday and the nuns at skool made sure there was never any meat on the Skool dinners and Woe Betide any one admitting to eat meat at home on Friday, They loved to swing that cane which was surgically sewn to their hand and tucked away in the drapes of the penguin suit,

I have always been under the impression that folk of both the Protestant and Roman Catholic faiths ate fish on a Friday, which was something to do with Jesus feeding the five thousand using loaves and fishes

PeterP
In the 1970s a lot of zero calorie drinks came out, such as diet pepsi, diet coke, one cal etc it was for health reasons, because drinks like coke and pepsi contained a lot of sugar which is bad for you, but that was a load of crap, because they couldn't care less if sugar was bad for their customers.
The reason was the cost of the sugar, if they used sweeteners instead of sugar, it saved them a fortune in manufacturing costs, and made them a mint in profits

TTS a few years ago the government imposed a sugar tax on drinks at I think was 20p a litre but now some sugar free drinks are dearer than drinks with sugar in them
